Over 300 complaints wee lodged to the Parliamentary Workplace Support Service since its first nine months of operation, according to a new report.
Among the complaints, 30 cases concerned sexual assault and other allegation of serious crimes, and 33 cases were about bullying.
The support service was set up following a recommendation from a landmark report that examined widespread misconduct in federal parliament.
Earlier this year, the parliament also passed a law of setting up an independent Parliamentary Standards Commission to investigate misconducts and enforce behaviour code.
Health Minister Mark Butler says the report is concerning, but not surprising,
“These are deeply concerning reports, obviously, several years now after the set up of standard report and afterward the now established structure for people working in and around parliament to be able to make a complaint are still having, you know, some hundreds of complaints and some dozens of sexual complaints, would be a concern to anyone working in parliament, or anyone in Australia that expects frankly their parliament have much better standards. So there’s a lot more work to do. We want to make sure that parliament is a safe place to work as every other workplace in Australia should be. This simply isn’t good enough.”

The Associated Press has called Arizona for Donald Trump, handing a further 11 Electoral College votes to the Republican.

It also means Mr Trump won all seven swing states in this election.

New Yorkers concerned that the election of Donald Trump could mean a loss of rights for immigrants and other vulnerable groups have marched through midtown Manhattan.
Trump campaigned to return to the White House vowing a vast immigration crackdown, including a promise to deport record numbers of immigrants in an operation Trump’s running mate JD Vance estimated could remove 1 million people per year.
Meanwhile, the American Civil Liberties Union says it is preparing for the challenges the incoming Trump presidency will bring.
Anthony Romero is the group’s executive director.
“
Well, we’re clear-eyed that President Trump presents a clear and present danger to the nation’s fundamental freedoms. We know what he’s promised. We have muscle memory when it came to fighting President Trump. From 2016 to 2020, we filed 434 legal actions, 250 lawsuits, and they raised a broad array of issues around LGBT, immigration, the separation of powers. And we know that President Trump this time around is going to double down.”

A nationwide search has begun for Australia’s next Olympians and Paralympians to compete in the upcoming Brisbane Games in 2032.
The Australian Institiute of Sport has partnered with all state institutes, Paralympics Australia and more than 40 major sports to find the athletes who will be representing Australia in less than a decade.
Those without sporting experience, as well as athletes looking to change to a different sport, are being encouraged to participate in the testing days being held around the country.
Selected candidates will then undertake the Talent Development Program.
The talent pipeline program targets Australians aged between 13 and 23 for Olympic sports; and those 13-plus for Paralympic sports.
Tim Matthews is a senior performance and talent advisor at Paralympics Australia. He hopes the program can help find the talents they need for Brisbane Paralympics.
“We are hoping to identify individuals that have the talent, desire, they fit from a sport perspective depending on what their classification is, we want to help them get involved in the sport that’s the most suited to their impairments, and hopefully put them on the pathway to the Paralympic Games.”
